Bolgheri is synonymous with charmWho knows this corner of the Maremma, has experienced certain wines and who recalls the land, the light, the sea, the contours of the countryside and the charm of its people, will find their mind racing with the dream, thrill, and charm of that intense red wine which seduces the nose with its rich aromas.
Tenuta Argentiera, part of the Tenuta di Donoratico owned by the Serristori family from Florence, sits on the beautiful coastline of the Alta Maremma, approximately 100km to the South-West of Florence, in the small and very prestigious Bolghieri DOC appellation.
Today the Tenuta is in the hands of brothers Corrado and Marcello Fratini.
In Etruscan times, on inland area of the Tenuta were millponds, springs and silver mines. These mines made the area important for mining and agriculture and were the origins of the name Argentiera.
The winery has exploited the potential of these soils to make great red wines. Argentiera is a winery closest to the sea in the Bolghieri appellation and the estate that stretches inland and up the hills is also the highest in the DOC. The vineyards are surrounded by green Mediterranean vegetation and the countryside is crossed with roads lined with age-old cypress trees and olive groves that give an evocative countryside with intense aromas.
The design of the winery was inspired by local architecture of the Tuscan coast between Livorno and Grosseto that has with thick, sloping walls that naturally regulate the indoor temperature.
Tenuta Argentiera will offer visitors guided visits and wine tastings allowing to experience first-hand this winery that has a unique interpretation of “Terroir” in Bolgheri. Wines can be tasted and purchased in the Enoteca without prior appointment.
